How to Disable & Lock Down Printing Access in CentOS 7 / RHEL 7

How to disable and Lock Down Printing Access in CentOS 7 / RHEL 7 / Scientific Linux 7 / Oracle Linux 7.  This function is used to disable and lock down the native printing dialogue box for a certain applications that supports its form factors and 100% compatibility with this printing dialogue box that is shown during the printing commands executions. This tutorial is useful to those who don’t want any printing supports for respective users to lock down support for the  printer that is connected via network and desktop methods.

How to Disable & Lock Down Printing Access in CentOS 7 / RHEL 7

Step-1 (Create a user profile on system database)
[[email protected] ~]# vim /etc/dconf/profile/user

Add the User name to the file if don’t have user name then create it from this configuration settings.

user-db:user
system-db:local
system-db:site
system-db:distro

To edit hit the i after that to Save and exit :wq!

Note: Replace the db name of user with own list of users followed by the name of users , types of system db. etc.

Step-2 (Create a lockdown file for local database)
[[email protected] ~]# vim /etc/dconf/db/local.d/00-lockdown

Add these entries to that files

[org/gnome/desktop/lockdown]
disable-printing=true

To edit hit the i after that to Save and exit :wq!

Step-3 (Restrict these changes for user and prevent it for changes)
[[email protected] ~]# vim /etc/dconf/db/local.d/locks/lockdown

Add these entries to that files

org.gnome.desktop.lockdown.disable-printing

To edit hit the i after that to Save and exit :wq!

Step-4 (Finally update the System Database)
[[email protected] ~]# dconf update

These setting are successfully working with only Gnome bundled applications like gedit, Evolution, Document viewer, etc.

Final Results

Now you have disabled the printing services for gnome applications. After that your user won`t able to run any printing services on the respective compatible gnome apps. this let system admin to choose whether the respective network and desktop printing services. for any other queries and services you can use the comment section below.
